This historic two-story brick Boarding House was relocated in 2003 as part of Phase I of the Tampa Interstate Study project. It is
one of the few remaining examples of a historic Boarding House, used to lodge newly arrived cigar factory workers in this Ybor City
neighborhood. Boarding Houses were once very common in the district, although more typically built in wood.
Renovations were completed
in early 2008. Exterior work included restoring the two story wood porch decks and metal roof, installing new metal railings, installing
a new egress stair on the rear of the building, restoration of windows and doors and rebuilding failing areas of brick. Interior repairs
retained the original central hallway with eight rooms per floor plan, but incorporated modern living requirements for kitchens, baths
and closets.
The City of Tampa sold the building to a non-profit organization that will be operating a housing program to help returning female Iraq War veterans called the Athena Program, once again returning this building to its original Boarding House use.
